Do you ever feel like you watch too much TV or too many movies and feel guilty about it?
Well, don’t! Watching TV and movies is a great way to learn real expressions and improve your comprehension skills.
What you can get from this is nothing but beneficial since you’re going to be learning from doing something you enjoy, and let’s be honest, what’s better than that? The cool thing is that whether it’s romance, the news, drama or action, there’s something for everyone in TV and movies.
It sounds great, right? But, like most good things, it’s necessary to make an effort in order to see results. It’s going to be frustrating at times but little by little you will start to feel different and within a few months you will be amazed at how great your progress will be.
By this point you might be asking yourself how to start or what the right steps are. The key is to do it naturally, start with something you know you’re going to enjoy. If you’re into fun stuff, watch a comedy series. If you like more serious content then watch a drama or a documentary, anything will do the trick.
Something else you have to take into account is that you’re not going to understand 100 % of what you watch, and that’s just fine. We work by context, and it’s the context what is going help you understand the main ideas of whatever it is you’re watching. So, what if you don’t know what a word means? No problem, you can look it up later. The important thing is that you start taking challenges and getting out of your comfort zone.
If you understand about 70% of what’s going on you’re going to be fine, the worst that can happen is that you may not understand some vocabulary, but, guess what? If you look it up later it will become vocabulary that is going to stick with you for good. So, it sounds like a good deal to me.
Well, there you have it. Go to one of those streaming services like Netflix or Prime and start watching movies or TV series. If you feel like it’s a little too difficult at first you can always use subtitles, but in English, please!
